Creative Writers

As I prepare to enter my first-ever photography contest, it occurred to me that writers not only write creatively, they are naturally creative people. To illustrate this, let me introduce you to several of my author friends who are extremely creative:

  • Linda and Jan both write and paint
  • Shirley writes and crochets
  • Stephanie writes and makes beaded jewelry
  • Brenda, Sharon, and Mike write and are award-winning photographers
  • Amy writes, dances, acts, and is a magician's assistant
  • Lonnie writes and plays instruments
  • Mike writes, sings, and plays several instruments
  • Linda writes and is a public speaking expert
  • Claire writes and is an amazing cook (or so I hear!)
  • Ruth and Linda write and read Tarot cards
I'm sure I've missed several, so please fill us in. Oh, and what's my claim to fame? I write, play the piano (albeit rarely) and have a new-found interest in photography thanks to my updated cell phone. (I'm currently shopping for an easy digital camera.) I also bought a Drawing for Dummies book because I would love to learn to draw and paint. Once in high school, I made a paper mache` clown that actually made it into the main hallway showcase at Central High School. That's big for someone who normally cannot draw stick people. I'd give anything to have that cute clown.

How about you? Besides writing creatively, are you a creative writer? If so, what is your creative outlet?

  1. I do love to crochet, but I'd love to try knitting. Also, used to dabble in photography, so wouldn't mind learning more about my camera. I have an SLR digital, but no clue what all the gadgets are for. So many projects, so little time. WOuld love to hear you play piano someday. I used to do that too, but never could play chords.

  2. Lois Kleinsasser/Cait London, a bestselling author and former professional artist, once told me that people who are creative in one area tend to be talented in other creative pursuits as well. Sounds like you've noticed the same thing!

  3. I write, paint, play piano (albeit rarely), crochet, knit, make purses, and dabble in other crafts. I love matching and working with fabrics. My secret desire is to be a lyricist.

  5. I quilt, love to decorate, arrange silk flowers. Used to to embroider, cross-stitch, tole paint, etc. I also did a lot of singing back in the day.
If I'm not being creative in one way or another I get bored and depressed.
Writing is my newest creative outlet.

  6. I spent many years playing bass in rock & blues bands. I still play acoustic guitar and sing at pickin' parties and church (occasionally). I began writing songs/poetry around age twelve. Linda Apple introduced me to the writers group 3 1/2 years ago and I began to devote more time to writing and (hopefully) developing a humorous style which will make people chuckle, smile, or at least yawn.

    1. I'd love to hear you play and sing, Russell. That's cool. You must have joined the writers' groups about the same time as me.

And you have a real knack for humor writing. I love your style.

  7. When not writing, I am a paper/ mixed media artist. I also have been a competitive cook/ baker/ table-scape arranger, love to crochet and quilt. If the product can feed the soul in some for and involves color, I want to try it.

  8. I love to scrapbook. I guess it's kind of like telling stories with pictures. I can't get out of Hobby Lobby or Michaels without something from that section.

  9. I am Kitty Sutton in Cape Fair, Missouri. Besides being a published author of two Native American historical fiction mysteries, I sing (I used to have a show in Branson for several years), I am a comic, I play the French Horn and Native American flute, I am a published songwriter, I have three published music albums, I raise chickens, ducks and geese, I am an avid gardener, I am a multi-media artist, I am a silversmith, and for 25 years we owned a stained glass shop where we did custom work, I am a Lampworker (I work with a torch and a glass rod to make all kinds of birds and animals), I am a sand carver (I carve thick plate glass using a type of grainy sand-like material), I am a clay sculpture artist, and a wood carver. My husband and I have had 41 wonderful years of exploring all kinds of art and it has provided us with a modest living, but we have been happy to say the least.

  10. I love to sew. I used to make matching outfits for myself and my kiddoes; doll clothes; anything I couldn't afford to buy. I've decorated cakes. I played the piano until arthritis in my fingers prevented it. My favorite creative endeavors, however, are putting pen to paper.
