OUR FAMILY: FOREVER CHANGED

HOW CAN SHE BE GONE?
By Beth Carter

How can she be gone?
She was just here this summer.
Unfair, brutal death.

Still in disbelief.
Our family is in grief.
A sweet, gentle soul.

I hold on tighter
to my family and friends.
She was killed. Still shocked.

Note: This is a combination of three haikus I've written about my niece's recent death. I've written a much more personal poem but will wait until the killer is caught before posting it. Thank you to everyone for your amazing support. RIP, dear sweet Shana.

  1. Beth,
This kaiku combo is great! The middle one makes a great bridge for the three.
Glad to see you posting again.
Your David L Harrison, haikus sparked my Official Change poem this month.
    Sending you love and hugs.

  2. Beth,

I love the middle haiku--perfect transition to the 3rd verse.

We suffered through a suicide in our family several years ago--I feel the pain and see the consequences of it yet today. My heart goes out to you. Like, Janet, I'm glad to see you writing again--it will help you work through the overwhelming grief.

Best wishes to you and all those that were affected by this tragic loss.

  3. Great poem, Beth. I'm sure it's still difficult to put your feelings into words. I'm praying that you'll be able to put your more personal poem on this site very soon. My prayers to you and your family.

  4. What a beautiful tribute to your niece. Prayers and blessings with you and the officals as they work to bring her killer to justice.
